SRAM Replaced My 30 Year Old Recalled RockShox Mag 20 Forks
I was working on an old Bianchi mountain bike that had RockShox Mag 20 forks. The forks would bottom out without a lot of weight. They are air/oil forks, and I thought they would just need some more air, maybe oil. I started looking online for service docs, but found a recall notice for these forks from 1995. These forks were made in 1992. Apparently the fork crown was prone to cracking. I tried calling the number on the recall notice, but it wasn't any good. I found a recall number of SRAM's site. Keep in mind, RockShox wasn't even a part of SRAM until 2002. So I called SRAM to ask about the recall on these 30 year forks, not expecting much. They took my name and address, and said they were going to send me some new forks. And they did. I was amazed.
FYI, I called them as a regular customer. I did not tell them I was RJ The Bike Guy, or mention anything about having a UA-cam channel.
Here is the recall notice for these forks:
www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/1995/cpsc-and-rock-shox-announce-recall-of-1992-mag-20-and-mag-30-suspension-fork-crowns
This is the number I called:

How To Keep Bike Handlebar Grip Ends From Ripping
Переглядів 29 тис.Рік тому
A simple trick costing only 10 cents can help protect your handlebar grip ends from getting torn up. I show you the "nickel trick" that helps protect the rubber grip ends from being cut by the open end of the handlebars. What causes this tearing is usually something like the bike falling over and the end of the handlebar cutting into the rubber like a chisel. This helps cover up the sharp ends ...
How To Straighten/Align A Bent Derailleur Hanger
Переглядів 64 тис.Рік тому
I noticed the derailleur seemed to be sitting at different angle than the cogs on the cassette. Looking closer, it looked like the derailleur hanger was bent. So I used my Park Tool DAG 2.2 Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge to straighten the hanger. I show the process. The Park Tool DAG 2.2 is a really nice tool, but it is kind of expensive. So I have a video shwoing how to make a cheaper home ...

How To Make An Extra Long Hex Socket Tool
Переглядів 11 тис.Рік тому
I show how to make a really extra long hex socket tool. I was working on overhauling a Suntour XCC fork, and to remove the lowers, I needed to remove a 5mm hex bolt that is deeply recessed in a hole. I normally use on of my Tekton extra long hex sockets, but in this case, it wasn't long enough. The blade length was about 5 inches, and I needed a tool with maybe 6 1/2" to 7" blade length. I show how to overhaul a bottom bracket with new sealed cartridge bearings. The bottom bracket was rough moving, and a little stiff. So I disassembled the bottom bracket, and replaced the old worn bearings with new bearings. My first suggestion would be to check the temperature of the room or your house. Two of my TV remotes were not working, or I needed to press hard several times. I had to reset the on/off. I changed batteries, cleaned inside and out. I have 4 TVs but didn't think to check the remotes. This was during a terrible heatwave. 90's and 100's My house was hot but bearable with floor fans. Temps and house went down to low 70's today. Bingo! Both remotes work fine. Maybe it was just coincidence?

    I think it's not great that there is a little thinner left in the body hub. After using the thinner I suggest rinsing with water. Shake the part in a container with water. Change the water 2-3 times. The smell begins to disappear, Then I use a hair dryer to heat the free hub body a little (2-3 minutes) this removes all the humidity before re-greasing

    Great video, one thing I’m confused about is why you dished the wheel instead of just putting 10mm of spacers on the drive side of the wheel. What am I missing?

    I have Shimano ST-M410 shifter and wanted to replace its cable. I removed the bottom cover, but the cable was not there. Then I removed the top cover and the cable could not be found. Finally I noticed the large screw on the side of the shifter as I had worked on a similar shifter before, I removed the cap and inserted a replacement cable. However, the cable is not caught even the lever was pressed and the cable could be pulled manually from the other end, and the cable could not be pulled back even shift lever was pushed. Therefore I reinstalled the covers, but the cable was still not pulled even even when the shift lever is pressed. The shifter was working before I tried to install a replacement cable. What might be wrong?

    • @minouratoshi
      @minouratoshi 2 дні тому

      Is there ayy object missing on the cable that prevents the cable to slip to the outside of the shifter? The cable was not going through the cable guide..

    • @minouratoshi
      @minouratoshi День тому

      I could fix the problem. The problem was that the cable was not inside the plastic guide. The shifter cable must enter the hole which is slightly larger than the diameter of the shift cable. The plastic guide can be seen if the bottom cover is removed. The bottom cover can be removed if only one small bolt is removed. If the other side of the shift cable path is bright, the small hole of the shift cable guide can be easily seen. Do not blindly push the shift cable, it may bypass the cable guide.

    To me it looks like either the tabs on the turning thing that push down the pawls, or the parts of the pawls that get pushed down are worn out, which causes them to stay up too much. I guess the grime and sand that was in there before might've done that damage. Amazing job on reassembly and explaining all the workings of the hub at the end!

    I just did a reverse (top down) wrap so I'll see if this is truly an issue. I understand the logic but I think it will depend on the type of tape, tightness of the wrap and the way my hands move on the bar. I really love the cleaness of the reverse wrap though I might prefer it even if it turns out to be less durable.

Now I know these parts are pressed togehter and I can further investigate the reason. As a kid I always loved the grip shifts with the Shimano CI-Deck because it made the bike look line a motorcycle with the gages 😂 I never had one, so I never had to experience them breaking down haha I also liked when the handlebar grip matched the shifter grip because it looked slick, but every bike I saw with grip shifts had mismatched grips, so I guessed it was hard to find an original grip to match the shifter which discouraged me into looking for a bike with those.
